Referrals

A Word About Referrals

In order to provide the best services possible for our patients, at times we will refer our patients to specialists. Over the years we have identified some of what we consider the best specialists in the area of oral surgery, periodontics (gum specialist), endodontics (root canals), and orthodontics. We base our decisions on individual skills, office technologies, quality of care, communicative ability, and chair side manner. We refer to specials who we would select to perform a given procedure our own teeth or the teeth of our families.

Usually we can identify a specialist who is in-network with most insurance providers and is conveniently located, though occasionally do to the unique skills of a provider we may recommend an out-of-network provider. We feel confident that you will be comfortable with the specialist to whom we refer you. We have an excellent working relationship with these specialist and work closely together to assure to the best possible outcome.

It is not uncommon that we recommend patients to see a specialist. Our philosophy regarding referrals is based entirely on quality of care, skill of practitioner, and patient experience. We recommend a referral when we feel that outcome of a given procedure will be better in the hands of another healthcare provider – usually a specialist.

We always encourage our patients to see whomever they feel comfortable with when it comes to their healthcare. When a referral is given from this office, it is in the spirit of trying to find the best match of skill and chair-side manner for a specific procedure or goal. Patients are welcome to choose any provider or group, and we at Comprehensive Dental care will work with your choice. If you feel you need to see a provider in a certain network, please contact that network for a recommendation.

We refer for complex oral surgery, implants, severe periodontal disease and unusually challenging root canals. We select specialists based on credentials, quality of care, skill, communicative ability and chair side manner. There are numerous examples of complex cases where we have worked together with highly qualified several specialists to provide the best services possible at affordable prices. In cases like this no single provider can provide the quality of results we want for our patients.

We like to point out that the quality of care of specialists varies greatly. Individual skills, office technologies, and chair side manner are highly variable in the local area. We make recommendations based upon whom we would select to perform a given procedure on our own teeth; it is only with that in mind that we will refer patients to that doctor or office.

We often get questions about insurances, including who is in-network, and with which plans they participate. We understand that personal financial restrictions, especially with the current nature of the economy, are a factor for patients. Unfortunately, we have also seen “bad dentistry” – poor diagnostic and communicative skills, and overall below average experiences – that has cost – that has cost our patients more money and more time than if they had followed the original recommendation.

We always encourage our patients to see whomever they feel comfortable with when it comes to their healthcare.
